My first official beer brew has started, and while I am ashamed to have used a kit, I prefer to do rather than learn(and pay for it, and learn from mistakes). This kit was easy to do and I've learned a lot from doing it. It's bubbling today, the first day after putting the yeast in (less than 12 hours ago, actually!). The brew is Peace Coffee Java Stout. I'm using Thames Valley from Wyeast.

The green tomato wine is also starting to build up pressure in the airlock, but has not yet bubbled.

The Four Firkins has the Onvi and Convention beer now! I'm heading there tonight to grab some and will let you know how I feel about these brews.

Here's what I'm brewing:

I did my garden in a different manor than most. I used lasagna gardening, but, not quite. Limited on supplies(gardening season was fast approaching, tilling is a pain, and leaves are all but raked and gone). I used my hoe to till the ground, only a little, not too much. From there, I put peat moss, coconut coir, top soil, potting soil, mushroom compost, and unfinished compost. Some I purchased, but most of it was things I already had. I tried to keep spending to a minimum.

The garden is doing well. I've got lots of tomatoes out there now. I have to stake some tomatoes for additional support, some are caged. The method I used in gardening has produced a few late seedlings which I did not know were even there. I'll post more about that soon.

The vermicomposter is doing well, I've dug a hole in the middle of each tray and that serves as sort of a heat chimney and the worms are much happier about that now.

Unfortunately the worms are still trying to escape! I think it's too hot in the bin, waiting for the bottom to get a little more "done" then going to harvest and only put in bedding. I think no more bread for the worms, maybe let it sit in some pre-made compost or put it in the outside envirocycle composter.

The garden is doing well, still no warm temperatures here in Minneapolis yet, only getting into the 80's. The lime trees are growing a few flowers. I have a few green beans so far. That's about it.

All the plants are doing really well except for the green sausage tomato plants, which haven't grown much since I got them. Going to spread some home made worm castings out there today.
